Where the colour comes from
External staining comes from coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco, and is usually dealt with by removing deposits and whitening. Internal changes — after an injury, after root canal treatment or from medicines — respond less well and sometimes call for a veneer or a crown.
What we do
At the examination we first deal with decay, gum inflammation and tartar; a cosmetic procedure comes after treatment, never instead of it. Then we choose between in-practice whitening, home whitening, internal whitening of a single tooth, or veneers.
What to realistically expect
The result differs from person to person and depends on the starting colour and the cause. We talk about that before we begin, not afterwards. The effect is kept up by habits, and can be repeated by arrangement.
